I have seen up close and personal the aftermath of war these many years later. We were able to go to the 50th Anniv. Commemoration of the Signing of the Armistice and that was some help in 2003. We wished we could have stayed longer. Because Fr. Kapaun was there in S. Our daughter is pregnant with her first child. An ultrasound indicates that the baby has no kidneys or bladder, a condition known as Potter’s Syndrome. Without these organs, the baby will not produce amniotic fluid and the lungs will not develop. Babies with Potter’s syndrome are not expected to survive more than 24 hours due to the undeveloped lungs.
We are asking Father Kapaun to intercede for Baby Clark. We ask for prayers that the baby will arrive whole and healthy with fully developed lungs in April.

Dear Prayerful,
Yesterday I was visiting my 93 year old uncle, Msgr. Molloy. He graduated from the seminary with Fr. Emil Kapaun. He gave me his prayer card and asked that I pray for his canonization. Today I received the tragic news that a friends nephew was killed in the Iraq war. I firmly believe the Holy Spirit was at work and I’d like to request prayers for the family and the soldier. His name was Luke Yepsen. He leaves behind a mother, father, and brother. They are from Houston, TX and he had many members in his extended family. Please keep all of these members in your prayers as we pray for Luke and Fr. Kapaun.
God bless,

Father Kapaun, pray for us.
STORMING HEAVEN FOR CATHY HENDERSON
An Appeal from Helen Prejean, csj
Dear Sisters,
Cathy Henderson is on death row in Texas, a very bad place to be on death row. Texas has the busiest killing chamber in the U.S. Already executed three women. Now it looks like the state of Texas is going to kill Cathy, unless a miracle happens. And that’s what brings me to you, my Sisters. I’ve been Cathy’s spiritual advisor for three years. I had met her in 1998 with the other women on death row in Texas when I visited Karla Faye Tucker and her friend, Pam Perrillo. Three years ago I got a letter from Cathy, in which she said “I need to prepare myself for the worst. If I am executed, will you be with me? I think you could help me be calm.”
It’s looking bad for her in the courts. The Fifth Circuit Court, last court of appeal before the Supreme Court, just turned down her appeal. And it is rare ~ very rare ~ that the Supreme Court considers death case appeals. Cathy could be dead in a couple months.
She made her appeal for your help in her letter to me last week: “Texas courts follow their own rules, their own laws, like it’s God. They don’t care about justice. But God is God, not Texas. Please ask Sisters across America to pray for me. I know that if thousands of nuns across this country raised their voices to God for me, God will hear them.”
So, my Sisters, I ask you to pray mightily for Cathy. Spread the word and ask others to pray for her, too. If you are so moved, write to her and let her know you are praying for her. Letters to condemned prisoners mean a lot. Letters give dignity. Letters say: “You are a human being. I respect you.”
Cathy Henderson, 999148 Mountain View Unit, 2305 Ransom Road, Gatesville, TX 76528. There’s not much time. Act quickly. “God hears the cry of the poor.”
Soon as we can organize the information, I’ll come to you with a second request for Cathy, asking you to write letters to the editor, the governor and to members of the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole.
Synopsis of Cathy’s case:
Cathy was condemned to death for murdering a baby. That’s what the Texas prosecutor claimed. He now sits on the Texas Legislature. But I believe Cathy’s version of what happened. Cathy was babysitting with little Brandon and, to stop him from crying, was swinging him around when, barefooted, she stepped on a sharp toy, lost her balance, and the baby flew out of her arms, hit the wall, and died. It was an accident, but at trial there was miserable defense for Cathy to tell her story and examine forensic evidence to show that the baby could have died as a result of such an accident. The plight of the poor: no defense for Cathy, who sits on death row, and a venal prosecutor, who presented her as a monster and now sits in the legislature.

My father served with Fr. Kapaun in WWII. They were very close friends
and my father was the photographer of a number of
photos in the 1st book about Chaplain Kapaun. I am going through a very
difficult time in my life. I am a single mom with 4 children. My husband chose
to verbally and physically abuse me and I made a decision to be on my own than
to let my children become what he is. Financially I do not think I will make
it. I cannot find a job other than waitressing although I have a college degree
and experience. Personally I am lonely and scared and honestly think I am going
to lose it but I pray to Fr. Kapaun because of his friendship with my father.
But, a little extra can't hurt.
Thank you

Kayla (no last name)

case that seems to be impossible, but nothing is impossible to God. And with
Father Kapaun’s intercession, this could be the miracle he needs for his

honor and glory of God and her own sanctification. Likewise, such a miracle
could be the encouragement others need to overcome the evils of our society.

We request a prayer for our infant son Joseph Anthony Volmert.
Joseph was born last July 8th in Saint Louis, our fourth child, and he had elevated blood sugar levels. After two days at St. Athnony's hospital, he was transferred to Cardinal Glennon's Children hospital in St. Louis. He spent a week at Cardinal Glennon's.
My father was a veteran of the Korean War and he pasted away in October of 2004. During Joseph's initial days of life, I prayed for my father's prayers, I thought also of Fr. Kapaun. At the time I prayed to Emil Kapaun, knowing of his care for the sick during the Korean War, since I read numerous articles about Fr. Kapaun in the St. Louis Review , newspaper of the St. Louis Archdiocese.
Upon my prayers to Fr. Kapaun, Joseph proceeded to get better and we brought him home a week later. He is now 9 months old, however his pediatrician thinks that he may be delayed developmentally. He cannot crawl nor articulate any sounds typical for a 9 month old. We may be over anxious parents, however having nutured three children before Joseph, my wife and I think that something is not "right" with Joseph's development.
We request your prayers and the intercession of Fr. Kapaun for our son and for our family.

I have suffered considerable nerve damage to my lower legs. I have seen several
doctors, but apart from ankle braces, support stockings, and pain medication,
there seems little that they can do. I am very unstable on my feet and have
great difficulty walking.
I have presumptiously anticipated Fr. Kapaun's sainthood, and have been praying to him for several weeks, asking that he interceed for me to our Merciful God for relief from this condition. I ask that you join me in asking Fr. Emil for help. Thank you.
I would also ask that you offer a prayer of thanksgiving with me for William Maher. His wonderful book "A Shepherd in Combat Boots" is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. It is a "must" for anyone working for Fr. Kapaun's cause.

My brother Ronn Heise is suffering from stage 4 stomach cancer. He is 44 years old with a wife and four children. Ronn has spent his life as a
funeral director helping people cope with the loss of loved ones and in dignified service of the dead. As a result of my oldest son teaching at
Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita, I have come to know and love Father Kapaun's service to his fellow prisoners and of his devotion to the
dignified burial of the dead. I have been praying to Father Kapaun for help in intercession for a miracle for Ronn. I truly believe Father Kapaun is
a Saint and someday will be canonized. I pray that one of his miracles will be a cure for my brother. Please pray to Father Kapaun for his intersession.

********************************************************************************************************************************************************************* I ask that you pray for a young man of 44 who found that he had type IV plus stomach and intestine cancer only a week and a half ago. The cancer is moving rapidly and because of an infection in his feeding tube is not able to take the necessary treatments. He is the father of four, and although he has remarried, his children lost their mother less than ten years ago. Ron is a funeral director and a practicing Catholic. He is at peace with God but asks for prayers for strength for himself and his family in the weeks to come. A miracle is welcome if it God’s perfect will.
Sincerely,
Denice Morris
